Description

In 1976, leaders from the Treaty 6 and Treaty 7 First Nations travelled to Britain as part of the commemoration of the centenary of those treaties. They met the Queen at Buckingham Palace, visited with schoolchildren in Birmingham and London, and attended the Royal Agricultural Show at Kenilworth. On the eve of their departure, the British government hosted a reception in their honour at Edinburgh Castle. The Treaty 6 Chiefs were: Chief Frank Buffalo (Sampson Band), Chief Eugene Steinhauer (Saddle Lake Band), and Chief Joe Dion (Kehewin Band). Treaty 7 Chiefs: Chief Leo Pretty Young Man (Blackfoot Band), Chief John Snow (Stoney), Chief Jim Shot Both Sides (Kainai).
