Description

Sir William Johnson received complaints from Mohawk at Canajoharie that a renowned troublemaker, George Klock, Sr., had tricked one of their young men into a transatlantic trip for purposes of display. He was exhibited for several days before Klock was confronted by Lord Dartmouth. He nevertheless conned the Mohawk man out of any money, leading to revenge theft of his property by leading Mohawk back home. We’ve placed his marker over the site of the demolished Sandwell Hall in Staffordshire, built for Lord Dartmouth (William Legge) in 1711 – for want of any information about where the Mohawk man stayed while in London.
