Description
John Wompas finally got his audience with the King when he acted as a translator for two Christian Nipmuc boys who had been brought to court by William Stoughton and Peter Bulkely. The two Massachusetts colonists were there to answer to the colony’s flouting of British law and had brought the boys with them to testify to their benevolence towards the King’s Indigenous subjects. We have placed the flag at the Royal Exchange, since that is where Pulsipher suggests Wompas would have learned of their presence in the city.
