Description

In 1891, Buffalo Bill returned to the UK for a more extensive tour. The showground was established on a large field between the Trent and Loughborough Road, with viewing accommodation for 15,000 people. This show took place shortly after the tragic death of Paul Eagle Star in Sheffield and many of the warriors were absent at the funeral at West Brompton in London when the Nottinghamshire show began. They had returned by the Wednesday, but were almost witness to another tragedy when, during the Saturday afternoon show, one of the stands collapsed. Fortunately none of the spectators were seriously hurt, the worst injury being the broken ankle of 40-year old Owen Richardson. Paul Eagle Star’s remains were repatriated to South Dakota in 1999.
