Description
Ojibwe missionary, Peter Jacobs, returned to Britain again in 1851 on a fundraising tour (he had previously visited in 1842-3). During his time in Britain, he spoke at Wesleyan meetings, including one in Huddersfield in April 1851. According to the newspaper report, Jacobs was “received with a hearty welcome. He was attired in his native costume, as a chief, and is an intelligent and fine-looking man. His style of speaking was rather desultory and unconnected, but highly interesting, and now and then characterised by the fine touching eloquence and pathos for which his tribe are so well known.”
