Description
Along with John Jeffries (Cree), Ida Vandall (Cree) and Clyde White (Mohawk), Nora Gladstone was one of four First Nations teenagers selected to represent their nations at the coronation of King George VI in 1937. They spent several weeks traveling around England afterward, including a stay with the Somervells of Plumgarths in Kendal. They attended the town’s schools (Nora and Ida attended Kendal High School) and visited local attractions, which included canoeing at Ratherheath Tarn.
