Description

Horn is a famous Mohawk activist who has been widely involved in Indigenous rights campaigns, including the 1968 protest at the Three Nations Crossing in Kawehno:ke. Protesters were angered at being forced to pay duties on items when they returned to their nations, despite their right to travel freely across the U.S.-Canadian border. In May 1969, she flew to London to draw attention to this issue. She visited 10 Downing Street with a petition for the recognition of Indigenous North Americans’ rights to freedom of movement between Canada and the U.S. under the Jay Treaty, signed with Britain in 1794. She also left a copy of the petition for the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
