Diplomatic visitors who came to Britain to plead their case in a land dispute””the Narragansett hoped to prohibit sales and leases of land to colonists, even when the seller was a sachem. The brothers landed at Greenock and then went on to Glasgow in April 1768, then Edinburgh where both contracted smallpox. Tobias, who had been a pupil of Eleazor Wheelock, died on 6th May but John survived and continued on to London. Tobias is interred in Edinburgh. John himself died in Connecticut at the age of 24. Many of their people would end up leaving Rhode Island and forming a new, intertribal community in northern New York.
