Description

James Brady served in the Canadian Forces in World War II and his arrival at Caterham Barracks in June 1944 coincided with the first V-1 rockets falling in southern England. On June 27th, a near hit on the telephone exchange at the Barracks killed four men and injured eight others. Luckily, at that moment, he was “enjoying a cup of English tea” in a cafe in Croydon while on 24-hour leave instead of being on his scheduled duty at the exchange.
