Description

Cree singer and activist Buffy Sainte Marie appeared at Birmingham Town Hall in 1966, two years after being named Billboard’s Best New Artist. The Birmingham Daily Post’s review of her set was a little condescending, declaring that while “her sincerity was apparent from the first, and she held the attention of the audience throughout” but that her voice was “occasionally”nasal and throaty” and she was “not a “˜singer.'” However, it ended on a positive note: “she is definitely an entertainer and her performance last night will be remembered for a long time.”
