Description

Olnik was brought to Dundee by Captain Adams of the Arctic whaler in November 1876. He gave kayaking demonstrations at Victoria Dock, Dundee, and visited sites of interest around the city, including the Camperdown Linen Works. With “perfect composedness of demeanour, but with manifest interest,” he “viewed the different processes brought under his notice.” The following month, he and Captain Adams travelled to London, where Olnik was hosted by the Lord Mayor, Dinéd with the Prince of Wales, and also attended a meeting of the Geographical Society. He returned home in the spring of 1877 on the Arctic with Captain Adams.
