Description
Another diplomatic visit in relation to a land pursuit, Porridge carried his people’s case to the Crown to prevent settler incursion on Wampanoag land after rogue settlement at Martha’s Vineyard, including allowing livestock to graze on Native lands. The petition reached the Privy Council in May 1773. In 1774, the Massachusetts legislature intervened in the Wampanoag’s favour.
