Description
Relatively little is currently known about the Mi’kmaq sagamore Segipt and his wife and sons, who travelled to London on a diplomatic mission and were received by King Charles I. They returned without any formal agreements with the Crown, but were nonetheless early examples of a much longer trend of Indigenous diplomatic visits to the city.
