OCT for imaging the human retina

OCT cross-section through the human retina.Activity in fibre optic sensing and low coherence interferometry developed in the Applied Optics Group under the leadership of Professor David A. Jackson and Dr. David J. Webb until 2003, laid the ground for expertise that was later applied to the emerging field of OCT. A review of several technical solutions developed by the Applied Optics Group in the field of low coherence interferometry applied to optical fibre sensors and later to optical coherence tomography is presented in:

The work in Kent of applying OCT to imaging the retina has evolved along the following stages:

  • En-face OCT and OCT/SLO
  • Collaboration with the Institute of Ophthalmology London
  • Collaboration with Ophthalmic Technology Inc and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary
  • Multiple path En-face OCT
  • Master Slave OCT
