SHODOS was a 3-year EPSRC/DTI Link project to measure strain in concrete bridges. Kent had a 2-year involvement to develop a scheme for multiplexing up to 128 sensors. In-fibre Bragg-gratings (FBGs) were the chosen sensing elements as they provide information on both local strain and temperature. Target resolutions were 1me and 0.1 degrees C.
