About

Pablo Domínguez is an Environmental Anthropologist and Senior Researcher at the CNRS (Laboratoire GEODE at Université Jean Jaurès in Toulouse).  His research focusses on customary systems of communal natural resource management / governance, specially mountain pastoralism. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the CBCD between 2012-14, working on the project, COMMUNITY BASED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ON A CHANGING PLANET: ACTION RESEARCH AND SOCIOECOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN MOROCCO.

During his first ten years of research, his main theoretical question has been “how do symbolic-cultural-religious representations and socio-material uses of the Environment relate to each other?”. During these years he focused most of his work on the Maghreb, particularly on the agro-silvo-pastoralism of Amazigh/Berber populations of the High Atlas and their agdals, Morocco’s prime customary commons (www.tdx.cat/bitstream/10803/79093/1/pdg1de1.pdf).

Since 2015, he has worked in other Mediterranean mountain sites such as the Baetic Systems of north-eastern Andalusia, the Pyrenees and the Dinaric Alps of Montenegro. At the same time, he supervises two PhDs in East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania). His research interests have also evolved towards the development of an increasingly holistic and transdisciplinary (eco-anthropological) approach on pastoral commons, as well as on possible different paths of support to these, particularly from a nature and culture Heritage enhancement and a Political Ecology perspective (e.g. https://mediter.ird.fr/).
