Dipl. Phys. Dr. Bettina Heise, Lead Scientist OCT & Digital Imaging at RECENDT – Research Center for Non Destructive Testing – GmbH Linz, Austria, visited Applied Optics Group (AOG) on 29th May 2026.
RECENDT was one of the associated partners in the European ITN NETLAS research project which finished in November 2025, having the mission to promote the transfer of technology from science to industry, and where Dr. Bettina Heise, as head of OCT technology group, maintained a close cooperation and contact between the NETLAS project partners.
NETLAS trained 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) at 8 world-leading academic institutions, and 6 non-academic institutions, thus forming strong interdisciplinary relations implemented through employment of ESRs in academia as well as industry, and through inter-sectoral secondments for all ESRs.

Dr. Bettina Heise delivered a presentation at 11:30 am in the Photonics Centre Conference room (Jennison Extension) entitled “Quantum Sensing in Optics at RECENDT”.
After the presentation, Dr Heise visited the AOG’s labs where she had the opportunity to talk to students and Postdocs about their latest research results.
Short bio: more than 25 years in field of optics
starting with optical sensor modelling for multi-phase fluids while in Eastern Germany, in Austria/Linz University
continuing with image and signal processing for microscopy
Later: responsible for OCT technology at RECENDT
Now: retired at University, some consulting tasks for RECENDT
In long contact to AOG at Kent University
