Several members of AOG attended the conference Smart Diaspora 2025 4-7 November 2025, Cluj Napoca, Romania

Between November 4-7, 2025, the Ministry of Education and Research together with UEFISCDI, in partnership with the Union of Universities of Cluj (UUC)-Babeș-Bolyai University, Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, “Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music, University of Arts and Design- and the Romanian Academy, organized the 6th edition of the Romanian Scientific Diaspora Conference- Smart Diaspora 2025.

Starting with the first edition in 2008, the Romanian Scientific Diaspora Conference has become a landmark and at the same time a tool for promoting Romanian research worldwide, also being a catalyst for the talent, expertise and experience of the Romanian scientific diaspora.

Each of the 5 editions organized to date (2008, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2023, bringing together over 4,000 participants) have highlighted the particular importance that Romania attaches to science, technology and innovation for the development of the knowledge society, for economic and social progress, and the role of the diaspora.

Prof. Adrian Podoleanu, Dr George Dobre and Dr Adrian Bradu attended the conference and delivered the following presentations entitled “OCT, a versatile Technology to Connect the Biomedical Optics Community of researchers in Romania” , Optical coherence Tomography: from the human eye to smart biocompatible biomaterials (and beyond)” and  ‘OCT-Seeing the Unseen’ respectively.

Prof Adrian Podoleanu was invited to be part of an expert panel Q&A on 7 Nov during the closing plenary session. The session offered a platform for dynamic discussion, exchange of ideas, and forward-thinking strategies to stimulate sustainable collaborations. The session encouraged audience engagement through live questions, enabling meaningful dialogue between top researchers and participants.

As a recognized promoter of links with Romania and the Republic of Moldova over more than three decades, Prof Podoleanu contributed expert perspectives, practical advice, and thought-provoking suggestions, reflecting his continued commitment to knowledge-sharing and professional excellence.
