Visit from Professor Kawal Rhode (King’s College London)

Professor Kawal Rhode, from the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, King’s College London, visited the Applied Optics Group (AOG) on the 19th April.

Professor Kawal Rhode

We were pleased to welcome someone with such an impressive history of translating research to industry and the clinic (which can be seen here); this is an example for the AOG to follow.

During his visit, he gave a talk to the group on “Imaging biomarkers in heart disease”.  This provided us with a fascinating insight into the need for new tools to support cardiac interventions, and suggested a number of possible applications of our work to cardiology. Following the talk, Prof Rhode was given a tour of the AOG labs, seeing some of our optical imaging systems in action. With the potential fo collaboration firmly established, we are now looking forward to more reciprocal visits and interactions.
