At the School of Psychology, University of Kent we are looking at how children learn about their world, about other people and about the language they hear around them. We are interested in how children learn and develop and the role of families and schools in their development.
We run a variety of research projects in nurseries and schools, as well as with families, and work with children from birth through to adolescence. Our research is conducted here at the University in our labs, as well as online, and in schools.
We are always looking for schools to take part in our research, and for parents who might be willing to bring in their child to take part in our research in our child-friendly labs in the Kent Child Development Unit.
We are keen to share our research findings with education professionals in a number of ways:
- Training and continuing professional development
- Resources
- Twilight training sessions
- An annual Identity and Belonging Conference for professionals working with young people (e.g. education, social care, clinical, police)
- A free short course on gender development for education professionals and parents. This includes resources, ideas and information that provide a taster for our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
