Dr Wang Weinan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent. He completed his PhD in 2022 at Beijing Normal University. His thesis examined different evaluation approaches in the context of Chinese third-party NGO evaluation and attempted to promote a reflexive context-sensitive theory of evaluation.
Weinan has more than 10 years of research and practical work experience in the field of Chinese philanthropy, including working at Tsinghua University’s NGO Research Centre and as a long-term volunteer at Facilitators, a social work NGO in Beijing. His research interests include Chinese civil society, evaluation practice and theory in the third sector, and “moonshot philanthropy,” he is currently part of the “Moonshot Philanthropy” research project hosted by the Centre for Philanthropy. Weinan is also a researcher and evaluation expert belonging to the China Evaluation Support Platform for Philanthropy and is the executive editor of the journal Chinese Law and Government.
