About

Dr. Anan Jongkaewwattana is well recognized as an expert in the field of molecular virology especially in the area of reverse genetics technology development of RNA viruses at both national and international levels. He received a Royal Thai Scholarship (sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology) to pursue his B.S-Ph.D. degrees in the USA.  In 1998, he enrolled in the cell and molecular biology program and graduated, with honor, from The University of Michigan (UM), Ann Arbor.  He subsequently joined the Department of Microbiology, The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to continue his doctoral study and received his Ph.D. in 2005.  In 2006, he was granted an opportunity to join, as a post-doctoral fellow, at the Department of Infectious Disease at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, to be trained on the technology of reverse genetics of influenza A virus, under the supervision of Drs. Erich Hoffmann and the world-renown virologist—Dr. Robert A. Webster.  Soon after his return to Thailand, Dr. Anan Jongkaewwattana started his research group with his research assistant working on influenza virus biology and, a few years later, his group was expanded to the “Virology and Cell Technology Laboratory. In 2016, he has been promoted to act as a research unit director of a newly established research unit (Virology and Antibody Technology Unit) with more than 35 research personnel.
