The Intelligent RF System (iRF) team, led by Prof. Steven Gao, is internationally recognized for the research on smart antennas and phased array systems for satellite communications and radars, space antennas, millimeter-wave antennas and RF wireless systems. The team has built collaborations with institutes and industries internationally (Airbus Germany, Airbus France, Airbus UK, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. UK, IHP Microelectronics, Germany, University of Ulm, Germany, University of Calabria, Italy, Huawei Technologies Ltd, China Research Institute of Radiowave Propagation, etc). Current research areas of iRF team cover smart antennas, phased arrays, antennas for 5G base stations, antennas for smart phones, space antennas, Massive Multiple Inputs and Multiple Outputs (M-MIMO), small antennas, RF/microwave, millimeter-wave and THz circuits, substrate integrated waveguides (SIW), satellite communications, wireless power transfer, UWB radars, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) receiver antennas, synthetic-aperture radars, remote sensing, electromagnetic modelling and small satellites.
