Integrated Clinical and Practitioner Academic Programme (ICAP) 2023-24 – Internships and Bridging Schemes

This programme is available to nurses, midwives, non-medical allied health professionals, social workers, public health and other registered health and care professionals. The ICAP internships and Bridging Schemes provide support for clinical academics to build on their previous academic training and develop proposals for fellowships or pre- and post-doctoral awards, and take the next step on their clinical academic pathway.

ICAP internships and bridging schemes aim to:

  • Enable awardees to develop skills in higher-level reflection in relation to research, based upon their discipline
  • Provide academic supervision and facilitate clinical mentorship for awardees to undertake research that builds upon a culture of critical evaluation and enquiry in relation to their service setting
  • Develop opportunities for self-directed research and reflection
  • Immerse awardees into a vibrant research environment and enable them to develop an independent piece of research in preparation for a PhD application or other research opportunities
  • Consolidate post-doctoral awardees’ academic training and development whilst supporting them in balancing clinical service needs, and assisting them with developing an application for clinical lectureships

By undertaking the ICAP at CHSS, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Enrol on the accredited course, ‘Introduction to applied health and care research’ (20 Masters credits)
  • Be part of research community involving the University, local NHS/Social Care providers, and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration, Kent, Surrey and Sussex (ARC KSS)
