Evaluating ‘Relationship Building Together’ intervention for young people who have experienced childhood trauma
An expert team of partners led by CHSS received a Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) award of £403,000 to conduct a three-year RCT of an intervention to help young people who come into contact with Bridgend Children and YP services displaying challenging behaviour resulting from childhood trauma.
The project partners include Bridgend Council in Wales, Teesside University and the funding is part of a £5.8 wider investment by YEF and the Home Office to help practitioners working in youth justice, edge of care, youth development and early help services.
Bridgend trauma leads and staff will deliver the intervention based on an existing trauma recovery model called Relationship Building Together. Principal Investigator Professor Simon Coulton leads the CHSS team, supported by Research Fellow Nadine Hendrie (Trial Management) and Research Associate Rosa Vass (Trial Coordinator). They will discover whether this new approach is more effective than current practice in meeting the needs of young people. Professor Simon Coulton said:
This is an addition to our existing portfolio of complex trials testing new ways to meet the needs of young people and give them the best start in life.
