The health psychology group within CHSS brings together researchers with a broad range of experience and skills. Specialisms include self-management of long term conditions, health behaviour change interventions, psychological wellbeing, mental health, cognitive impairment, disability and appearance research. The group incorporates expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods, and patient and public engagement.

Projects are focused on the application of psychology research and methods to understanding and improving health and the healthcare system, with a particular emphasis on the development and evaluation of interventions. We have developed educational and training interventions for a wide range of professional groups including mental health and community workers, primary care clinicians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and teachers. This work has included local, national and international initiatives.
