I am the director of a business psychology consultancy called Extended Mind that specialises in executive assessment and coaching, team development and well-being. Clients vary from large organisations, such as Amazon Europe, to smaller, niche organisations in the biotech and software sectors.
My work has always focused on using insights from social cognition and social networks to help individuals and teams understand each other better and to collaborate more effectively.
More recently, my professional work has involved providing support to individuals and groups experiencing the stresses and strains of leadership in a challenging economic climate.
For my PhD, I am exploring the relationship between depression, social cognition (how we understand each other and perceive our relationships), alongside the structure and quality of our social networks. Using a mixed methods approach to both highlight possible psychological mechanisms and to give voice to individual experience, I am hoping to identify results that point towards new interventions that may help to alleviate depression, as well as shedding more light on the phenomenon of social withdrawal when individuals experience mental health challenges.
I am a part-time associate lecturer for the University of Buckinghamshire where I lecture in mental health throughout the lifespan.
