About

Oya is an academic health economist working on health and social care projects and evaluations in Kent. She also teaches a module for an MSc in Advanced & Specialist Healthcare; ‘Introduction to Evaluation’ (WKBL 8850).

She is currently working on evaluations aimed at improving outcomes for vulnerable populations, including prison leavers and children and young people vulnerable to exploitation and engagement in criminal activity. She is also working on a qualitative investigation of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings for children and young people in Kent.

Research interests

Health economics, qualitative methods and methodology, and teaching.

Career/Background

Oya holds a PhD from the University of Bristol and has amassed over ten years of experience in academia. Initially at the University of Oxford’s National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU), she specialized in conducting economic evaluations alongside clinical trials in the perinatal field. Transitioning to a role as a distance learning tutor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), she later served as a Research Design Service (RDS) advisor at both the University of Surrey and the University of Kent.

Since joining the Centre for Health Service Studies (CHSS) in April 2023 as Research Associate, Oya has been focusing on health economics and qualitative research across various projects.

Oya is particularly passionate about evaluating health and social interventions for marginalized groups, alongside her commitment to teaching
