I joined CHSS in September 2016 after completing an MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of Oxford. I also have a 1st Class Honours degree in Criminology from the University of Essex. I am particularly interested in the health outcomes of people involved in the criminal justice system.
My current roles include trial manager of Re-Frame: Randomised Controlled Trial of a Diversion Programme for Adolescents in Police Custody who Possess Illicit Substances. A multi-site diversionary and mentoring programme that aims to reduce the risk of young people becoming involved in violence- Funded by The Youth Endowment. I am also part of a team that supports the development of Public Health Research within Kent County Council. Developing research capacity and connecting academic partners with key local authority teams across the wider determinants of health to develop and deliver public health research. Previous research projects have included randomised control trials, evaluating multi-component interventions for substance using adolescents involved in the criminal justice system (RISKIT-CJS) and adolescent alcohol users in schools (SIPS JR High) NIHR PHR. My professional background includes working as a government social researcher at the Ministry of Justice. A partnership project with the Judicial Appointments Commission that informed the Ministry of Justice Judicial Diversity Taskforce. I also have operational experience of the criminal justice system, including court experience as a Jnr Barristers Clerk, working in prisons, and various roles, both voluntary and paid, supporting ex-offenders who use substances. I am a trustee of a homeless charity. |
