About

With a background in exercise and health, I joined CHSS in July 2022 to continue working on a study looking at the feasibility of Isometric exercise for patients with high blood pressure.  I have been involved in project management across a variety of research and enjoyed my role as Research Adviser for NIHR Research Design Service; mainly advising researchers on their Patient and Public Involvement.

Research interests

Exercise physiology, blood pressure, primary care research, physical activity interventions.

Currently researching

I work across a range of projects, but spend the majority of my time working on ‘ISOFITTER’, looking at efficacy of Isometric exercise for patients with high blood pressure and ‘DESCALE’- the de-escalation of Opioids in patients following surgical discharge.

Background

Following completion of postgraduate studies (MSc) from Canterbury Christ Church University I worked within the University Sport and Exercise Science laboratories. This included client-based exercise physiology work and delivery of an outreach program to schools across Kent and surrounding areas. I enjoyed teaching secondary school students a variety of disciplines from Sport and Exercise Science (applied exercise psychology, physiology, biomechanics, research methods), and enabling a familiarisation of university for them in the hope to access higher education in the future.

I also coordinated a behaviour change consultation within Maidstone Borough Council called ‘Making Maidstone More Active’. This interdisciplinary 2 year project was a review of the leisure provisions available to residents and how adaptations could be made to enable more residents to meet the recommended amount of exercise. This work introduced me to place-based assets, qualitative data collection and Equality Diversity and Inclusivity methods for outreach to residents (stakeholders).

From June 2020- July 2022, I resumed a position at Canterbury Christ Church University as a Research Fellow (Clinical Exercise Physiology) which started my journey working on health services research. Since spring 2022 I have enjoyed being a guest lecturer for the MSc Applied Exercise and Health Science course and Undergraduate Exercise referral pathway for Sport and exercise Science. I joined CHSS as a Research Associate in 2022.
