In 2016 CHSS set up its first Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group; Opening Doors to Research. This is a public group of Kent and Medway residents that meets quarterly and plays a vital role in our research. We subsequently set up our second ‘virtual’ group; the Research Involvement Group (RIG), open to anyone resident in the UK. There is a short online form to complete to express interest in joining (see below). Our members work with us, feeding into the research process (see below) to embed PPIE at all stages. In this way our CHSS researchers carry out research ‘with’ rather than ‘about’ or ‘for’ the public.
