Artists’ Books and the Medical Humanities

The exhibition Prescriptions ran in the Beaney House of Art & Knowledge from 21 April to 25 September 2016 and was curated by Dr Stella Bolaki and Egidija Čiricaitė. It presented artists’ books by Maine book artist Martha A. Hall for the first time in the UK. Hall’s books, created from 1998 until her death in 2003, document her experiences with breast cancer and her interactions with the medical community. Prescriptions also included a supporting show of artists’ books by national and international artists responding to themes of medicine and wellbeing. Preview the exhibition catalogue to see and read about some of the work that featured in it.

Another exhibition, Prescriptions: artists’ books (1 August-17 November 2017), was put on display by Special Collections & Archives, Templeman Library (University of Kent) following this collection’s accession into SC&A.
