Dr Mitch Anstey of Davidson College (USA) Makes a Guest Appearance at SISC

Farewell to Mitch and Angelo

Dr Mitch Anstey and his student, Angelo Dean, from Davidson College, North Carolina, have spent the last three weeks working at Kent with Dr Ewan Clark on a joint project.  Mitch and Ewan joined forces to develop synthetic routes to some challenging phosphorus compounds (inevitably, with Ewan involved) to use in Mitch’s battery research.  To quote Mitch, “A project that was dreamed up on one side of the pond back in 2014 and carried out eight years later on the other side of the Atlantic inside of three weeks” – the work was intense but it was worth it!

Angelo, accompanying Mitch, is a third year undergraduate student whose travel was funded by the Yoder Fellowship, giving him not only a taste of research to help him ponder his future career but also a chance to explore a bit of the UK before he enters his final year and the real hard work begins.

It was great to have Mitch here, and hopefully he (and more of Davidson’s undergrads) will return in future.
