Felipe Fantuzzi Opens Colombian Computational Chemistry Conference in Historic Cartagena

Felipe Fantuzzi delivered the opening keynote at the IX Colombian Meeting of Theoretical and Computational Chemists, held at the historic Claustro de San Agustín in Cartagena de Indias.

SISC is proud to share that Felipe Fantuzzi delivered the opening keynote lecture at the IX Colombian Meeting of Theoretical and Computational Chemists, held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. His talk, titled “What is a Chemical Bond?”, was presented to an audience of over 120 participants at the Claustro de San Agustín, a historic site now home to the Universidad de Cartagena’s main city-centre campus.

Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was a fitting setting for a reflection on fundamental concepts in chemistry. The lecture took place in a grand hall adorned with a classical portrait of Simón Bolívar, the liberator of much of South America and founder of the Universidad de Cartagena in 1827. Bolívar’s presence—both symbolic and artistic—offered a poignant backdrop to a lecture that explored the very foundations of matter and molecular structure.

The event highlighted not only Colombia’s growing community of theoretical chemists but also Kent’s continued engagement with Latin American academic networks through SISC.
