Overview of the Newton International Fellowship Programme

The Newton International Fellowship programme is dedicated to attracting and nurturing emerging global talent within the UK’s research and innovation landscape. The fellowship offers a two-year funding scheme aimed at enabling international early career researchers to establish and conduct their pioneering research within a UK host organisation, such as our esteemed SISC group.

Aims and Objectives

Attract International Talent: To bring talented international early career researchers to the UK to establish and conduct their innovative research.
Support Innovative Research: To assist early career researchers in pursuing novel and high-quality research avenues.
Career Development: To offer opportunities for acquiring new skills and knowledge through comprehensive training and career development initiatives.
Fostering Long-term Collaborations: To encourage the development of lasting collaborative networks through the Newton International Fellowships alumni programme.

Research Fields

We welcome applications from researchers whose work falls within the natural sciences remit of The Royal Society, encompassing areas such as biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and physics. Researchers from other disciplines with projects that align with our research themes are also encouraged to reach out for eligibility clarification.

Fellowship Duration and Benefits

The fellowship, commencing by March 2025, provides two years of full-time funding, with flexibility for part-time arrangements due to health or caring responsibilities. Additionally, Newton Fellows will have access to support for international visas through the Global Talent Visa scheme, facilitating a smooth transition to conducting research in the UK.
