Mandeep's Expertise to Propel SISC's Vision in Organic Chemistry
The SISC Group at the University of Kent is thrilled to announce the addition of Dr Mandeep Chahal as a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry. With an illustrious background in synthetic chemistry of substituted porphyrins and their applications in sensing, Dr Chahal brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team.
Dr Chahal completed her PhD at IIT Roorkee, India, in 2017 and has since worked in prestigious institutes like the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan and the University of Southampton, UK. During her post-doctoral research, she worked on an array of supramolecular systems targeting diverse applications ranging from sensing to catalysis and artificial photosynthesis, as well as the development of Chemiresistive ‘detect-to-warn’ sensors.
Her recent Royal Society Newton International Fellowship at the University of Southampton saw her delving into the world of mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs), such as rotaxanes and catenanes, exploring their potential and applications.
At the University of Kent, Dr Chahal’s research will focus on the functionalization of tetrapyrrolic chromophores to develop them as advanced functional materials for asymmetric catalysis and solution processable porous materials. Her extensive experience in modifying synthetic tetrapyrrolic systems and developing supramolecular systems for various applications will undoubtedly enhance the group’s research capabilities and contribute to the advancement of chemical sciences.
Dr Chahal’s arrival is a significant boost to our community, promising exciting new directions in research and collaboration. We look forward to her contributions and the innovative pathways her work will pave in the field of Organic Chemistry.
Join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr Mandeep Chahal as she embarks on this new chapter with SISC at the University of Kent!
