Mandeep Chahal Represents SISC at TPDG 2024 in Liverpool

Kent’s Supramolecular Chemistry Expert Delivers Keynote on Functionalised Tetrapyrrolic Macrocycles

Dr Mandeep Kaur Chahal, a SISC academic at the University of Kent, recently participated as a keynote speaker at the Tetrapyrrole Discussion Group (TPDG) meeting held at Liverpool John Moores University on 12-13 September 2024. Her presentation, titled “Functionalised Tetrapyrrolic Macrocycles: Applications from Sensing and Catalysis to Porous Materials,” showcased her latest research on the innovative functionalisation of tetrapyrrole macrocycles.

The TPDG 2024 conference brought together leading experts in tetrapyrrole chemistry from around the world. Mandeep’s keynote highlighted the versatility of synthetic tetrapyrrolic macrocycles in fields such as medicine, materials science, and biomimetic models. Her work not only underscores the potential of these compounds in sensing and catalysis but also contributes to the growing field of solution-processable porous materials.

The event also featured a keynote talk by Dr Alex Jones from the National Physical Laboratories, and offered a platform for postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers to present their work through talks and posters. The TPDG 2024 conference continues to be a pivotal gathering for advancing the science of tetrapyrrole systems, and Mandeep’s participation further cements the University of Kent’s reputation in cutting-edge chemical research.
