Training

SOTSEC-ID training

This is 3 days long and allows therapists to become facilitators for SOTSEC-ID groups, the CBT programme for men with IDD and harmful sexual behaviour. A full treatment manual is included in the training.

The training is typically run at Friends House in Euston, London, but since Covid has been run on line, by zoom.

The new research programme, the HaSB-IDD trial, involves SOTSEC-ID groups at a number of sites in UK, so currently we are only running training for those therapists who are involved in the trial. It is free training for them.

The next training dates will be January 6th-8th 2025. It will be for therapists involved in the HaSB-IDD trial. Please email our assistant on saferidd@kent.ac.uk if you would like details.

Keep Safe training

Originally 2 days for face-to-face delivery, during Covid a variety of online versions were piloted with success. In view of ongoing Covid, cost of living challenges and need to conserve resources, we have continued training online. The next Keep Safe training will be 2 consecutive days: Mon 27th and Tues 28th January 2025; 9.30am – 4:00pm (with 3 x 90 minute follow-up group/ consultation sessions, dates tbc).

The cost for the 2 day training, electronic manual and resources, 3 follow-up consultation groups is £350.00 per person. Pairs or groups of staff from the same service are encouraged to support implementation – there is a discount for groups.

For further information and a booking form contact the Course Administrator: andrea.clay2@nhs.net who is part of the Bristol-based Be Safe Service and their NHS Trust, AWP, who are organising this Keep Safe training.

The Keep Safe training enables participants to learn the theory, model, methods and materials of Keep Safe and gives access to the Keep Safe manual and all electronic resources. After training, participants can facilitate Keep Safe groups or deliver the programme as individually focused family interventions, for young people 12 years and over with learning disabilities who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour.

For future dates, please email our SAFER-IDD assistant on saferidd@kent.ac.uk asking to be put on the circulation list.
