Where to go for help

  • Your local community learning disability team (CLDT) – they are usually local authority or borough-based and have referral forms on-line. So you can find them on google.
  • Your local Autism or Neurodevelopmental team. Not everywhere has these but they are intended for people with autism i.e. those who don’t also have a learning disability.
  • Some areas have community-based forensic learning disability teams who specialise in those with risky behaviour. Usually they take referrals from the CLDTs, rather than directly from families or people with LD.
  • If your family member is still a child, you will need to contact your local Child and Adolescent mental health service (CAMHS). They provide services for all children, including those with learning disabilities. See this link:
