  • Opening speech at the Riga Graduate School of Law Erasmus+ Jean Monnet international conference ‘Constitutional Law and Fundamental Rights’, 25-26 April 2019

Title of the speech: ‘The three main constitutional cultures of the EU Member States: Uniformisation or retaining diversity?’ The presentation was based on the ERC project books and the article ‘Erosion of constitutional rights in EU law: A Call for substantive co-operative constitutionalism’ in Vienna Journal of International Constitutional Law (see under Publications).

  • Plenary speech at the University of Oxford conference ‘The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in the Member States’, 22-23 March 2019. The conference was co-organised by the Institute of European and Comparative Law of the University of Oxford and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, and held at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, Mansfield College.

Prof. Albi presented the draft paper ‘The Undiscussed Effects of the Charter: Uniformisation of the three main constitutional cultures of the EU Member States and what is lost’. The paper is forthcoming in Bobek M. and Prassl J. (eds.) EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in the Member States (Hart Bloomsbury, forthcoming 2019.

 

  • Opening speech at the EU and constitutional law panel of the Estonian Lawyers Congress, Tartu, 3-4 October 2018.

Prof. Albi provided an overview of the results of the ERC research project ‘The Role of National Constitutions in European and Global Governance’, with a special focus on constitutional challenges relevant to Estonia.
