Physics of Quantum Materials – Outreach Events for Schools:

Our fun outreach events can engage school children at a range of ages. We have delivered sessions for schools in various formats, including at our beautiful Canterbury campus of the University of Kent, at public festivals such as the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, as well as at the lovely Discovery Planet Outreach Project shop located in the high-street of Ramsgate. We can also organise a session for you at your school. We also present sessions at the University’s yearly event for sixth form students, typically in early July.

We can offer sessions covering topics such as:

  • physics of materials
  • ultra-cold temperatures
  • phase transitions
  • magnetism
  • superconductivity
  • quantum physics and its applications

Activities can range from demonstrations to hands-on workshops. We can target age ranges of KS2, KS3 or KS4. Feel free to talk to us about your requirements and organise a workshop with us. If you are interested to join or host an event, please get in touch with Dr Möller or Dr Quintanilla, or talk to the University’s  Outreach team – ask for STEM Outreach Officer Megan Bell. You can find general information about STEM outreach on the central outreach site.
