Introduction
The NED is a searchable database designed to accompany the publication of The Nuaulu World of Plants: Ethnobotanical Cognition, Knowledge and Practice Among a People of Seram, Eastern Indonesia (2020, Sean Kingston Publishing, Canon Pyon, Herefordshire: https://www.seankingston.co.uk/publishing.html). It can also be used independently to find data on Nuaulu ethnobotany. How the database developed is described in Chapter 1 of The NWP. It remains a work in progress as new identifications and other information become available.
The present database covers vascular plants. All plants included were collected in or are known from the Amahai sub-district of South Seram unless otherwise indicated. For other geographical details UKC herbarium labels should be consulted. Separate databases for fungi and non-vascular plants are planned to appear in due course.
The NED has been prepared by Roy Ellen with the assistance of Mercy Morris, Christine Eagle, Nick Mavity and James Kloda. We thank the Leverhulme Trust for a grant that made the work possible.
