About

Prof. Yongyuth Yuthavong completed his PhD at the University of Oxford before continuing his research career at Mahidol University, studying the interaction of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, with human blood cells. In 1985, he became director of the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) and was appointed as the first President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) of Thailand in 1992. He has served as Thailand’s Minister for Science and Technology (2006-2008) and as Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand (2014-2015). Prof. Yuthavong now holds the position of Senior Advisor to the President at BIOTEC.
