About

Dr Stefanie Frank is a Lecturer in Synthetic Biology at the Department of Biochemical Engineering at University College London (UCL). She graduated with a PhD in Biochemistry from Queen Mary University of London having worked on the anaerobic biosynthesis of Cobalamin (Vitamin B12) in Methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus. During her postdoctoral time and as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Kent she has largely focused on the characterisation and engineering of bacterial microcompartments for the construction of novel bioreactors and spatial organisation of enzymes.

Stefanie’s current research interests include the rational development of Virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines as part of the EPSRC Future Vaccine Manufacturing Research Hub (Vax- Hub) which Stefanie is a Co-I of. She is also investigating bacterial nano-compartments as modular systems for vaccine design. Stefanie has recently joined the Global Challenges Research Fund grant (PI) supporting the yeast bioprocess development for the production of animal vaccine against porcine circovirus.
