About

George Williams (School of Physical Sciences) is a PDRA working with Dr Jennifer Hiscock and Professor Dan Mulvihill. During his PhD at the University of Bath, he worked under Professor Toby Jenkins, working towards the development of antibiotics, drug delivery systems and novel wound dressing materials to help combat antibiotic resistance. This global threat is predicted to take more lives than cancer by 2050. The project he will be working on follows research within the group in the development of novel small molecules able to self assemble, acting as antibiotics. These compounds, being tested in conjuction with Public Health England could prove to be an effective weapon in the fight against antibiotic resistant bacteria. This is of particular relevance in less developed countries, where the use of antibiotics is not controlled, allowing resistance to develop more rapidly. Prior to his post graduate studies George has an undergraduate Masters degree, also in Chemistry at the University of Bath.
