Corey Kirkland

Corey completed a BSc in Biology and MSc by Research in Genetics at the University of Kent where he gained an interest in applied genetics and genomics for environmental and conservation research. He then went onto a Research Assistant position at the University of Aberdeen in bioinformatics and metagenomics of microorganisms in soil ecosystems.

His research here at Kent aims to address the loss of biodiversity in Gabon by using genetic and genomic techniques to inform the management of a declining mammal species, the waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus). The PhD project aims to work with both the conservation charity Aspinall Foundation and researchers in Gabon to form long-term collaborations for conservation research.
