Training workshops

We offer training workshops designed for practitioners looking to deliver our treatment programmes (the FIPP and FIP-MO). This workshop is approved by the British Psychological Society for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Details of the workshops for practitioners can be found below.

If you would like to find out about training for Fire and Rescue Services please contact Dr Emma Barrowcliffe at nethercourtcamp@aol.com

We are now also able to offer training in Australasia on request via Dr Nichola Tyler. For details please email Nichola.Tyler87@gmail.com

Practitioner training

To be able to run the FIPP or FIP-MO programmes all facilitators need to attend a one day training programme delivered by the official trainers. The training day will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge to be able to successfully deliver the treatment programmes within your own service.

When is the next training programme?

We currently do not have any training workshops planned. If you would like to join our waiting list so you are among the first to hear if we announce any further dates, please contact Professor Theresa Gannon at t.a.gannon@kent.ac.uk

How much does training cost?

The standard training fee for an individual attending a one-day open training event hosted by the University of Kent or KMPT, including all materials, is typically around £200.

How long is the training?

A standard FIPP/FIP-MO training session lasts one full day. However, a 1.5 day session where more intensive training and specific case study work can be undertaken can be arranged upon request.

Other questions

Is the FIP-MO/FIPP suitable for clients with an intellectual disability?

We have had sites run the FIP-MO/FIPP with individuals with mild learning disabilities with some success. However, clients with moderate to severe learning disabilities are less likely to be able to engage with the material and therefore benefit fully from the FIP-MO/FIPP programmes.

We do have some adapted materials for individuals with learning disabilities to support individuals delivering the programme with clients with intellectual disabilities.

We are unable to run a 28 week programme at our service. Is there a shorter version of the programme that can be delivered?

There is not a shorter version of the FIP-MO/FIPP programme available at present. Preliminary evaluation findings show that the full 28 week programme is effective in reducing firesetters’ key deficits.

Can you offer consultancy on specific cases?
