The School of English at Kent has a vibrant research culture with a strong international perspective, apparent in both the background of our staff and the diversity of our research interests. That wide-ranging research is ambitious in its aims and often involves multi-disciplinary approaches within a culture that prides itself on its relevance and gravitas both in and beyond academia.
We have long adopted creative-critical strategies for the study of English as an academic discipline, making strong links between creative and critical writing within the school. The full scope of our activity can be seen in the range of research projects and expertise held by our staff in areas from the medieval to the postmodern, including British, American and Irish literature, postcolonial writing, 18th-century studies, Shakespeare, early modern literature and culture, Victorian studies, modern poetry, creative writing, critical theory and cultural history.
