Medicines safety is important for both patients and the public.

Our work in this area includes studies enabling the public to identify and report Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and medicines at the interface between secondary and primary care.

Current Projects

Information on Medicines

Work in Thailand involving Prof Janet Krska has demonstrated the urgent need for Patient Information Leaflets to be made available to patients when supplied with medicines. At present there is no requirement for these to be produced or provided in Thailand for medicines prescribed by doctors. Studies to date have evaluated existing information available for Thai patients, explored their information needs, sought the views of hospital pharmacists and consultants in providing medicines information and evaluated Patient Information Leaflets including user-testing. A scoping review of the literature in Asia and African countries on medicine information is ongoing.

Evaluation of medicines reconciliation services provided by hospital pharmacists

This large project involves 30 acute hospitals in England, studying the different extent to which medicines reconciliation is needed in different specialities, led by Linda Dodds.
