New Ceria Based Materials for Challenges in Energy and Environment

The design of ceria-based nanomaterials with specific and optimised properties will involve achieving the following strongly interlinked objectives:

  1. Synthesis of novel ceria and ceria-doped  nanomaterials with controlled nanoarchitectures;
  2. Obtain high thermal stability by using for the first time aerogels as a matrix for the ceria-based  nanomaterials to;
  3. Optimise the oxygen storage capacity through a very detailed characterisation involving the use of several complementary techniques which are Thermal Analysis, N2 physisorption at 77K, X-ray Diffraction, Advanced Electron Microscopy and related spectroscopies (EDS and EELS), and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy.

These objectives are the grounds for fully exploiting the vast prospects offered by this class of materials.
